Buckman Elementary is Portland's original arts magnet school for K-5. For two days each year, the school auditorium is converted into the "Paint Factory". Classes of students take turns mixing paint and slathering large sheets of construction paper. The paper is dried and stored for later use during art classes and projects throughout the year.

In addition to providing a unique store of materials, the students acquire many valuable skills both social and industrial. And the total immersion in the world of color seems to leave a lasting impression, making this one of Buckman's favorite annual events for the students, staff and volunteers who organize and run the Factory.
